About us ✞

What do your names stand for?

Let's start with the big one, Tame-Takus. So what does it mean? A while back I used to consider myself an otaku, which I thought to be a person who really likes anime, manga, and things related to the two. However, after seeing a YouTube comment saying what an otaku really is, I decided (1) I'm not an otaku.. and (2) there should be a word to explain all of us who thought we were otakus but are actually on a more down-scale level, or a tamer version of one. I also am subscribed to a certain YouTube channel with the awesome collab name of podcast and otaku. These two ideas of a tamer otaku and the collab of a word with otaku gave me the idea of "tame-taku," which I began to think of myself as months before we started our blog. And thus!-- we became the Tame-Takus! :)

When you read Tatiana Love SUSHI to yourself, you might be tempted to read it as Tatiana Loves SUSHI. Firstly, I'm sad to say I don't actually like sushi let alone love it. Second, my real name is not Tatiana. There's a bit of play on words for my name. My real name can be referred to it's Russian origin of Tatiana. My middle name is the Russian word for "love." And well, my last name... is very similar to sushi and can get quite mixed up when saying them together to create a tongue twister that is the most difficult one I've ever come across XD

And then there's Iona immersed in Sapphires, my name! This name is also a play on my name. Iona is an island outside of Scotland and it's my middle name. Sapphires are pretty, blue stones often used for jewellery, and it's one of the words closest to my name. Therefor, Tatiana (the smart one of us), invented this nick-name for me. The name basically means that there are "sapphires" all over the island Iona. ;)

What's your blog about?

We both love manga (Iona's area of expertise) and anime (my area of expertise), but we both love God as well. We want to share our love of the two with those like us who love God by doing five things. (1) We want to share our experiences with bad anime/manga so you don't have to go through the same ones we went through without realizing it. (2) We want to help you keep a look out for all the unbiblical things that occur in anime/manga so you build an awareness to what's wrong about it. (3) We hope to give more options of "Christian-friendly" anime/manga to those having trouble looking for them. (4) By using this blog, we also hope to create a community of fellow "tame-takus" so-to-speak who can be open with each other about their love for anime/manga and their love for God. (5) Lastly, we plan to have fun doing this project together, building ourselves up, learning more of each other, and bond together as sisters in Christ. All opinions are OUR own; please respect that, as we respect your opinion too.

Who are you as individuals?

Hey, you know me as "Iona immersed in Sapphires". I was born in Norway and grew up in Norway. However my mother is French Canadian and Hungarian, which makes me half Norwegian and half French Canadian (I never really say Hungarian). I live in Norway now, but I wish to move to Canada some day. Me and my mom visit Canada every summer, thats also how Tatiana and I met. ^-^ I am a strong believer and follower of Christ (just ask any of my friends at school, haha). I also like Girls' Generation, which is a Korean girl group or a K-pop group. I daydream a lot. If I would describe myself in five words it would be Christian, pink, kawaii, crazy, and a weird girl. A totally random fact about me is that I always have something pink less than a meter away from me. (  ‿  )

As stated above, my real name is indeed not Tatiana. Yes, both my first name and middle name are Russian, although my last name is actually French. This is because my mom's side of the family is Russian and my dad's side is French Canadian. So I'm half Russian and half French Canadian; but because I grew up in the U.S., I add a third part and say I'm 100% American :) the state I grew up in was Washington state, not DC which we get very annoyed about by the way :P I am now living in the Quebec province of Canada. One random fact about me is that I used to have 5 cats and one dog at the same time >.< How that was able to work out I still dont know to this day... O.O
